Over the span of five years and two agencies, I was able to work for my favorite sports team and haven't stopped talking about it since. I tailored all the advertising to hardcore baseball fans otherwise known as Cardinals fans.
It was humbling to write this simple memorial in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch on behalf of the Cardinals in honor of Stan Musial upon his passing.
Did you now that the Cardinals are the only birds that fly south during the spring? Well, besides the Orioles and Blue Jays. And we joined them to make some TV ads.
My headlines for local newspaper ads had to compete with column headlines written by decorated local sportswriters. But, once, when one of those sportswriters tweeted glowingly about a headline I'd written, it felt somehow better than winning an award
The full-color billboards were written to their ongoing tagline, "Play like a Cardinal."
